Guernsey deputy candidate pulls out of election race

A candidate standing for election to the States of Guernsey has asked for islanders not to vote for her.

Margaret Talbot-Cull told the BBC family circumstances meant she no longer wished to be a candidate in next month's election.

She is among 11 candidates standing for election in the South East district.

Under election rules it is too late for candidates to withdraw their nominations so her name will still appear on voting forms.

The other candidates in the South East district are: Arthur Eldridge, Mike Hadley, Janine Sauvage, Paul Luxon, Martyn Mahe, Aidan Matthews, Mike O'Hara, Francis Quin, Robert Sillars and Heidi Soulsby.

A total of 78 people have been nominated across the seven districts for the election of 45 deputies on 18 April.

A candidate standing in the last election in 2008 also asked people not to vote for them and polled a total of 18 votes.
