A record number of people have applied for postal votes in Guernsey's forthcoming general election.

The deadline for applying to vote by post passed at 12:00 BST and the total number taking up the option was 1,685.

This is a 9.6% increase on 2008 and represents almost 6% of the total number of eligible voters.

Postal ballots must be completed by the applicant and returned to the Royal Court House, St Peter Port, by 12:00 BST on 18 April.
