Call to change Guernsey chief minister nomination rules

States members have been urged to consider changing the rules on who is eligible to stand for the role of chief minister.

Currently only those who have served four of the last eight years in the States can stand for the position.

Deputy Matt Fallaize said any changes to allow all members to stand for the position would need to be permanent.

He said the ideal candidate needed the right combination of statesmanship and diplomacy.

The nomination period for chief minister closes at 16:00 BST.

So far two names, Deputy Lyndon Trott and Deputy-Elect Jonathan Le Tocq, have been put forward.
