Guernsey charities given lottery funds

More than £200,000 has been donated to Guernsey charities from the proceeds of the Channel Islands Christmas Lottery.

Money raised from the sale of the £1 tickets is given to the Association of Guernsey Charities to allocate to local organisations.

The 2011 draw raised £213,897 and, along with some funds donated by the association, has been split between 42 charitable or non-profit groups.

More than £2.5m has been raised for charity by the lottery since 1975.

The association has 350 members all of which are asked to bid for funding for specific projects.

The biggest donations so far in 2012 have been £20,000 to the Guernsey Cheshire Home for utility costs and £15,000 for the Guernsey Welfare Service to pay for welfare vouchers and office rent.
