Ferry services between the Channel Islands and Weymouth should resume in March 2013.

Structural issues closed Weymouth Quay in February and Condor Ferries moved its services from the port to Poole.

The first stage of works on the ferry berth area have been completed with more set to begin shortly.

Councillor Ian Roebuck, from Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, said the plan was for the second stage to start in September and be completed by March.

He said the council was currently putting the work out for tender.

Mr Roebuck said it was working to ensure the repairs happened as quickly as possible.

He said: "The ferry operation is of vital economic significance to Weymouth and a lifeline service for the Channel Islands."
