Joint-CI aircraft registry remains a possibility

Guernsey's Commerce and Employment minister says "the door is open" to Jersey on the setting up of a joint Channel Islands aircraft registry.

Deputy Kevin Stewart's comments came as he explained why Guernsey forged ahead with the legal groundwork for setting up its own registry, ahead of Jersey.

He said his political board was "concerned about losing momentum" if it had to "revisit the legal framework".

Jersey's Economic Affairs Scrutiny Panel has urged more co-operation.

Both island governments have investigated a new registry, which would also involve overseeing aircraft safety, as it is believed it would bring economic benefits.

The Isle of Man registry was set up in 2007 and has more than 500 aircraft listed.
