Guernsey Water asks for help to cut flooding risk

Islanders have been urged to ensure ditches and streams are clear of debris to reduce the risk of flooding in Guernsey.

Rainfall for October was 66% above the monthly average and the island's reservoirs are 98% full, which is more than normal for this time of year.

Andrew Redhead, director at Guernsey Water, said steps were being taken to cut the chances of flooding.

However, he said the public needed to check water flows on their own land.

Mr Redhead suggested ditches and streams should be checked at least once a week.
