Guernsey Airport landing system parts back in operation

A navigation system at Guernsey Airport is back in operation.

Part of the instrument landing system at the airport had to be removed four weeks ago to allow the runway to be moved 120m west.

The localiser helps pilots land at Guernsey Airport in low visibility. A new one will be installed next year.

It was removed from the area near the former La Mare Road, and has now been mounted on a support frame at the west of the of the airfield.

Colin Le Ray, airport director, said being without the system had left the airport at risk of disruption.

He said: "Thankfully the elements were relatively kind to us.

"It enables us to maintain operations under certain conditions during low visibility, which we can encounter any time of the year so it is impossible to plan for."

The work to replace the localiser and move the runway is part of an £81m scheme to repair the airport's surfaces and drainage.
