Guernsey mandate fraud investigation: Arrest after UK raids

A 34-year-old man has been arrested by police conducting investigations linked to Guernsey's £2.6m mandate fraud.

Lincolnshire Police, joined by Guernsey officers, carried out two raids on Tuesday morning, at addresses in Thamesmead in London and Chatham, Kent.

The man, who has not been named, was released on police bail until 18 March.

The money was paid out to people posing as Lagan Construction, the contractor working on Guernsey's airport project.

'Complex investigation'

Det Ch Insp Phil Breban, of Guernsey Police, said: "This latest series of operational activity is as a result of extensive inquires and solid detective work.

"However, this is a complex investigation and our efforts remain on bringing the offenders to justice and the recovery of our money."

Two men remain on bail after previous arrests in September and October.

Earlier this month, an independent review into fraud prevention measures within Guernsey's government was commissioned by the Public Accounts Committee.

The Guernsey branch of Ernst and Young is due to report its findings in December.
