Channel Islands to work closely on transport and energy

Guernsey and Jersey are to work more closely on improving the islands' energy supplies, ferry services and civil aviation.

The plans were discussed in a meeting between the two departments responsible for economic development.

Representatives of Guernsey's Commerce and Employment and Jersey's Economic Development departments met in Guernsey to discuss forging closer ties.

The cost of electricity was discussed, as well as digital strategies.

Ministers Kevin Stewart and Alan Maclean were joined by their respective senior management teams to outline where the two islands could work together in 2013.

The further development of a pan-Channel Islands aircraft registry was among the items under discussion.

Senator Maclean said building "mutually beneficial links" was "clearly in the long-term interests of both islands".
