Lagan Construction will not face legal action over a small chemical spill at one of its site compounds for the £81m Guernsey Airport project.

Guernsey Environmental Health said following an investigation, it would not be pursuing legal action.

Lagan Construction said in November that 10 litres of chemical bitumen had split at its southern compound.

A spokesman for the firm said it had taken steps to ensure it would not happen again.

A spokesman for the Office of Environmental Health and Pollution Regulation said: "Whilst this was an unfortunate, and avoidable, incident, no detriment to the environment or human health has been demonstrated to exist.

"This was a relatively minor incident, remedial action was taken by the company and controls have subsequently been put in place to prevent any similar recurrence."
