Guernsey cannabis supplier sentenced to three years

A man has been sentenced to three years in jail for supplying cannabis resin.

Nathan Peter John Bishop, a 21-year-old Guernsey man was found with 2kg of the drug on 27 November, in a disused vinery in the parish of St Saviour.

Judge Russell Finch handed down the custodial sentence on Tuesday in the island's Royal Court after Bishop pleaded guilty.

The Guernsey Border Agency estimated the resale value of the haul at between £39,720 and £49,650.

The court heard that on arrest, Bishop was holding a rectangular paint pot containing some of the cannabis resin.

During a search of his vehicle, the remainder was found inside his tool box.

Bishop admitted his guilt during interview, saying he was going to store the drugs he was carrying on behalf of someone else, while the drugs found in his vehicle were for onward sale.

He subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge of "being concerned in the supplying of a controlled drug to another".

His sentence runs from the date of his arrest.
