Saumarez Park playground funding reaches milestone

The rebuilding of a playground in a Guernsey park can go ahead as funding for the first phase has been secured.
An appeal to raise £500,000 to replace the equipment in Saumarez Park was launched in January 2012.
Hazel Seymour, from Friends of Saumarez Park, said the £163,000 raised thus far meant they could start to build the equipment.
She said there were some planning details being agreed before work starts in the coming months.
Ms Seymour said the group remained confident of reaching its £500,000 pound target, but were aware it may take some time.
She said: "Saumarez Park is the island's largest park and that playground is so well loved and well used".
The first piece of equipment to be built will be a pirate ship, followed by a toddlers' area and equipment for teenagers.
The playground was last refurbished 20 years ago.
