Male Uprising Guernsey begins Check Your Balls campaign

The charity Male Uprising Guernsey (MUG) has launched a campaign to persuade the island's young men to check themselves for testicular cancer.

The charity, formed in 2012, will work with sexual health nurses to take the message to schools.

Prominent island sportsmen have been filmed for a video and some posed naked for posters.

One of them, Guernsey FC player Ryan-Zico Black, said: "I just felt it was important for people to be aware."

"Personally, I had an experience a few years ago where I found a lump and it took me a while to build up the courage to get it checked out," he said.

"It was such a peace of mind, when I did get it checked out, to know it was okay."

Julie Duquemin, from the Sexual Health and Relationship Educators team, said: "We've been using the same educational film in schools for years.

"It was so out of date and had little appeal for our students."

The new DVD will be shown to 11-year-old boys from this month.
