Guernsey milk price to increase by 3p per litre

The price of milk in Guernsey is to go up by 3p per litre, according to the Commerce and Employment Department.

This is the second year in a row there has been a 3p increase which officials say is in line with retail price index changes.

Skimmed, semi-skimmed and full cream milk will go up to £1.11p per litre with half litre packets to be priced at 63p.

Commerce and Employment said the change would start from 6 October.

It will be the fourth increase in the price of milk since 2010 when a litre broke the £1 barrier for the first time.

Commerce and Employment Minister Kevin Stewart said: "The [Milk Price] Panel has aimed to balance the wish to contain price rises for consumers and ensure that the industry has sufficient funding to remain viable."
