Easyjet applies for Guernsey operating licence

Easyjet has already announced it will operate services from Jersey to London Gatwick

Low-cost airline Easyjet has applied for a licence to operate flights to and from Guernsey, the airline confirmed.

The company purchased Flybe's Gatwick slots this year and has announced plans to fly from Gatwick to Jersey.

A spokesman for Easyjet has said they are not in a position to confirm which airport they plan to fly to.

The decision to issue a licence will be taken by the States of Guernsey who have recently underwritten a loan to State owned airline Aurigny.

The loan is to pay for a larger jet that will operate between the island and London Gatwick airport after Flybe pull out in March 2014.

The Easyjet spokesman said they have applied for the licence so they can look at all the options and decide if a route is commercially viable.

The decision to give a licence will be taken by the States of Guernsey Commerce and Employment Department who were not available for comment.
