Guernsey hospital theatre closure delays operations

Orthopaedic operations at Guernsey's Princess Elizabeth Hospital have been delayed due to the closure of an operating theatre.

It was closed on Monday after problems were found with the filters in the air handling system.

The Health and Social Services Department (HSSD) says the theatre is due to remain closed until specialist contractors are brought to the island.

The department said five operations had already been delayed.

It said arrangements were being made for emergency orthopaedic surgery to take place in a different theatre.

The department said: "There may be a knock-on impact on some patients' treatment.

"Anyone who is affected will be contacted directly by HSSD, with apologies for any inconvenience caused."
