Guernsey flights to Southampton cut by Flybe

An airline flying from Guernsey is to suspend its weekday Southampton flights for several weeks from early October.

Flybe says the number of passengers currently using the service makes the route unviable.

Instead Flybe will operate extra flights at weekends for the first three weeks of October, operating three flights per day in each direction.

The airline says it then plans to run one flight per day on weekdays from the end of October.

Passengers booked on a weekday October flight will be contacted by Flybe and offered an alternative or a refund.

Rival airline Blue Islands competes on the Southampton route promoting it as an alternative gateway to London.

Southampton Airport's director of marketing and communications, Jan Halliday, said the airport was disappointed by Flybe's decision.

She said: "However, there are currently three rotations a day with Blue Islands and in October this will increase to four flights per day in each direction.

"We understand that those passengers who have already booked with Flybe will be offered alternative flights to and from Guernsey with Blue Islands".
