Devon and Cornwall Police said "contingency plans were stood down" at 18:00 GMT and normal service resumed

Technical issues with 999 and 101 calls have been resolved, Devon and Cornwall Police has said.

The issues on Wednesday meant anyone calling 999 could have been put through to another force.

Devon and Cornwall Police said "contingency plans were stood down" at 18:00 GMT and normal service resumed.

It said it launched an investigation into the cause of the technical problems and would work to make sure the issue did not happen again.

The force said "our staff are trained for such matters".

"We would like to thank the public for bearing with us yesterday.

"We are investigating the root cause of the technical issues, in order to identify any measures that need to be put in place to avoid the same issue occurring again in the future."

Details from calls diverted to another force on Wednesday were passed to Devon and Cornwall Police for them to deal with, the force said.
