New pontoons plan in £10m Guernsey marina upgrade

Guernsey Ports has launched a £10m programme of improvements at the QEII Marina.
Among the upgrades are new and improved mooring facilities for about 130 vessels, it said.
The project, which will cost more than £10m over the next few years, will replace ageing infrastructure that dates back to the 1980s.
The first phase of the upgrade will involve the replacement of two pontoons, D and E.
They are the most exposed to waves and host some of the largest boats in the marina, said Guernsey Ports.
The new pontoons, which will cost £1.4m, will be modern, heavy-duty and supported by reinforced piles, it said.
In total, more than £20m of investment has been identified across Guernsey leisure marina over the next 10 years to help address ageing infrastructure.
Guernsey Ports civil engineer Jenny Giles said: "The D and E pontoons have reached the end of their design life and need replacing.
"These new, industry-standard pontoons will significantly upgrade the current berths and allow us to optimise the configuration of moorings for some of the largest vessels in the QEII."
Boat owners with berths on the affected pontoons have been informed of the upcoming works and the proposals for relocating their vessels.
The construction work is scheduled to take place in the first six months of 2024 when many boats will be out of the water for winter maintenance.
The QEII Marina upgrade is part of a wider plan to invest about £64m in St Peter Port Harbour over the next 10 years.
