The Tree of Joy has been put up in Guernsey, as the build-up to Christmas begins.

The tree is on show as part of a campaign by the Rotary Club of Guernsey asking members of the public to buy a toy for children who might not have a Christmas present to open.

Jerry Girard, from the club, said the tree at St Peter Port Harbour marked the beginning of Christmas for many.

This is the 29th Tree of Joy campaign organised by the rotary club.

The tree, made up of string lights, will be officially switched on later this month.

Mr Girard said: "It's part of Guernsey's Christmas establishments, and I think people look at the illuminated tree and that sort of heralds the beginning of their Christmas."
