Guernsey Ports says about 7,000 islanders are expected through the airport

More than 10,000 people are expected to move through Guernsey's airport and harbour this Christmas.

Guernsey Ports said about 7,000 air passengers were expected through the airport between Friday and 30 December.

It added that about 3,500 passengers were expected at Guernsey's harbour.

Steve Langlois, head of passenger operations and aviation security at Guernsey Ports, said teams had "the right resources in the right places."

He said: "It's a busier time of year for us.

"I think, generally speaking, passenger numbers are on par with last year; it's a fairly steady run-up to Christmas and the new year.

"We're used to the peaks. We have peaks throughout the year.

"Our teams are very experienced and we have the right resources in the right places."

Ports bosses have recommended travellers leave presents unwrapped as they may be opened by security staff to check contents.

Those with early flights have also been asked check in early and arrive early.
