Short Alderney film aims to attract aspiring politicians

A promotional video encouraging people in Alderney to stand for election features a "pyramid of objectives" for its future, the States said.
Resting on a foundation of transport, care in the community and education, these objectives were identified in the Island Plan drawn up in 2022.
A general election is scheduled for the end of 2024.
Senior politician Nigel Vooght said they were seeking to "inspire people to offer to throw their hats in the ring".
In an eight-minute film, external, Mr Vooght, outlines a "hierarchy of needs" being progressed to "lift Alderney's social and economic prosperity in challenging times", the States of Alderney said.
Citing the foundation of the "pyramid of objectives" as transport, care in the community and education, the next tier was energy and housing, while the "top tier" featured improved economy and the environment, the States said.
"Surrounding all of that is good governance - how we manage the island and how we work together as politicians," said Mr Vooght in the film.
"We are looking at these issues in a detailed way and hopefully we'll inspire people on the island to actually want to stand for election at the end of the year and help to drive these things forward in 2024 and beyond," he added.
Among priorities were the planning application for the Airport Rehabilitation Project and the Braye Harbour Development Plan, he said.
Health and wellbeing services, as well as education were also highlighted as key, while a new housing policy to "provide housing projects that Alderney needs for young families, essential workers and hospitality staff".
"Without them, we don't have an island," Mr Vooght said.
Sustainable energy and environment were also in the pyramid, Mr Vooght said, with a new strategy for nature and agriculture being brought forward to public consultation.
