Boats abandoned in Alderney's harbour will be removed and some sold, the harbour master has announced.

The removal is part of the General Services Committee's (GSC) plans to tidy the harbour and recoup money that is owed for boat storage.

Harbour master Adam Rose said the plan would target "abandoned or unclaimed" vessels and those "whose ownership is indeterminable".

Removal notices for the boats expired in January.

The committee said many of the vessels were in an abandoned or unseaworthy condition.

The GSC approved the plans under a 2002 law which gives it the power to dispose of abandoned vessels.
