Volunteers are wanted to help keep up the maintenance of the gardens

A Guernsey gardening initiative is looking for people to assist with tasks over spring and summer.

The Herm island gardening team wants volunteers to help keep up the maintenance of the gardens.

Volunteers are wanted for one day a week and will be provided with ferry travel, refreshments and lunch.

Craig Senior, CEO of Herm island, said it was an opportunity for islanders to "give back" to the Herm community.

'Paradise island'

He said it was a "simple initiative with no agenda" for individuals who wanted to "chip in".

"Many people in Guernsey think Herm is part of their life, their heritage, it's how they were brought up, and sometimes they just want to come and give a hand.

"If people want to come to their little paradise island or what is their herm, then why not."

Gardening equipment will be provided for those taking part.
