Isle of Man Government scrutinises UK cuts

Spending cuts proposed by the UK Government are being scrutinised by the Isle of Man Government for any possible effects on the Manx public purse.
Economic Development Minister Allan Bell said the UK changes have had an effect on his preparations in the run up to February's budget.
"We need to know as much detail as possible," he said.
He added, "That is why we will still be putting the last touches to the budget in the week before the budget."
Benefit payments
The Isle of Man Government does not receive any direct funding from the UK .
However it operates a reciprocal arrangement over benefit payments to Manx citizens in the UK and UK citizens on the island.
The payments are linked at similar rates, a government spokesman told the BBC.
He said any change in UK benefit levels could affect the Isle of Man.
Mr Bell said the island' s economy was strong.
"We've survived the recession and unemployment is at its lowest level for two years," he added.
