More than £300,000 owed in unpaid fines on Isle of Man

More than £300,000 is owed in unpaid fixed penalty parking fines in the Isle of Man, it has emerged.
The news comes as North Douglas MHK John Houghton called for more licensed debt collectors on the island.
Mr Houghton is gathering evidence on the scale of unpaid fines and civil debts for his Debt Recovery and Enforcement Bill.
He hopes to bring forward his private members bill on the issue by the end of the year.
He said his aim was to bring in licensed debt collectors "in order to collect unpaid debt that belongs to members of the public, that they are having great deal of difficulty in collecting currently".
The figure for unpaid fines was given by the government in reply to a question posed by Mr Houghton in the House of Keys last week.
