Anglers fishing without a licence in the Isle of Man can be fined £250

Isle of Man anglers are being warned of hefty fines if they are found fishing without a licence this season.

Two fishermen have recently received government fines of £250 for fishing during the closed season.

They have also been disqualified from holding any type of freshwater fishing licence for 12 months.

Member for Fisheries, Juan Turner MLC, said: The rules are there to protect the stocks for the future and this is of benefit to anglers and their sport.

"It is in anglers' interest to be fully aware of all the rules and regulations relating to fishing in both rivers and reservoirs and ensure these are complied with at all times."

The reservoir fishing season on the island begins on 10 March and finishes on 31 October.
