'Swift justice' in Isle of Man drink-drive campaign

The 2011 drink-drive campaign in the Isle of Man will deliver "swift justice" to offenders, say the police.

The constabulary warns that drivers found over the limit could face a fine of up to £5,000, a driving ban and a criminal record.

The campaign is a joint initiative between the Department of Infrastructure and the police.

Insp Terry Stephen said offenders would be fast-tracked through the Manx court system.

He added: "Any person arrested and charged will either be kept in police custody overnight or bailed to attend court the following day."

Police say the campaign, which is being advertised in pubs and restaurants around the island, takes the form of a "specials" blackboard showing the penalties for drinking and driving.
