Noble's Hospital breast cancer care inaccuracies prompt recall

More than twenty Isle of Man breast cancer patients have been recalled for a "treatment review" after inaccuracies were uncovered in hospital tests.

A Noble's hospital spokesman said no one has been misdiagnosed but some may been given the wrong treatment plan.

The inaccuracies were uncovered in a series of hormone tests which determine what treatment patients should have.

Hospital medical director, Stephen Upsdell said those affected will be contacted by the breast care team.

He added: "Caring for patients is our priority and we appreciate that some patients and their families will be concerned by the fact that their current treatment may need to be reviewed- all affected patients will be seen as quickly as possible.

"It became apparent that we were seeing different results to the ones we would normally expect so we looked into it to see what was happening.

"We decided to retest about 100 samples taken since 2011- I can't predict what the outcome of this will be or whether or not this will alter people's treatment- this will be reviewed by a specialist team- the hospital is doing everything it can to sort this problem out."

A hospital spokesman said the number of those affected could rise to about 40.
