Isle of Man beach clean campaign continues in south

Last September 60 bags of rubbish were collected from Gansey beach

A beach cleaning campaign run by volunteers on the Isle of Man is continuing in its quest to clean up the Manx coast line.

Beach Buddies will meet in the south of the island on 10 March to clear rubbish from Gansey beach, an area last tackled by the group in September.

Over the past few months almost 1,000 people have signed up to help with clean-ups around the island.

Organiser Bill Dale said: "This job is like painting the Forth Bridge."

He added: "When Beach Buddies leaves an area we leave it immaculate, we clean it up totally but sadly when you come back two weeks later you are back to square one."

In recent months wildlife experts on the island have called for people to be more careful with their litter after a basking shark was filmed with plastic around its nose and a grey seal was photographed with plastic around its throat near Kitterland.
