Isle of Man weapons amnesty nets 110 firearms

A total of 110 firearms have been handed in during a month-long weapons amnesty in the Isle of Man, police have announced.

A spokesman said a large collection of ammunition, knives and other weapons were also surrendered at Manx police stations during November.

Insp Mark Britton said size and scale of the response was "brilliant."

A previous firearms amnesty in 2005 on the island resulted in 150 weapons handed in.

The scheme, authorised by the Attorney General, meant people handing in items are exempt from prosecution.

Similar gun surrenders were held across the UK.
