Arrests down in Isle of Man drink-drive campaign

The number of arrests during the Isle of Man's annual Christmas drink-drive campaign has fallen by more than 40%.

The police said there were 12 arrests in 2013, compared with seven in 2014.

The campaign, which was launched at the beginning of December, was run jointly by the infrastructure department, public health and the police.

Sgt Allan Thompson said: "Drink-driving can ruin so many lives and our figures, although not ideal, do show that the message is getting across."

In 2012 there were 19 people arrested for drink-driving offences and 16 charged - this year there were seven arrests and three charged.

The annual four-week campaign was called 'Drink Safe, Drive Safe, Act Safe'.
