Passing sentence, Deemster Cook said Hutchinson had accepted his actions were "deplorable"

A man who tried to bite the police officers who were sent to arrest him when he breached a domestic violence protection order has been sentenced.

Douglas Courthouse heard police found Jack Hutchinson, 29, drunkenly shouting and kicking bins at his partner's home in the town on 9 May.

The hearing was told he attacked the officers and later damaged his cell.

Sentencing him to a nine-month suspended sentence, Deemster Graeme Cook said Hutchinson caused "mayhem".

He suspended the sentence for 18 months and banned Hutchinson, of Douglas, from buying alcohol for a year.

'Deplorable'

The court was told neighbours called police late in the evening after Hutchinson was heard shouting outside the house in Pulrose.

One neighbour said Hutchinson threatened him and kicked over bins.

The hearing was told Hutchinson threw himself to the ground when police arrived and shouted that he was "not going to make this easy", before punching, kicking and trying to bite the officers.

Once in custody, the former airport security worker blocked the toilet in his cell with a cup and defecated on the bed.

The court heard he said he "couldn't remember anything" the next day and told officers he could "drink an amount that would almost kill someone".

Passing sentence, Deemster Cook said Hutchinson had accepted his actions were "deplorable".
