Gales over the Irish Sea have led to the cancellation of daytime ferry crossings between the Isle of Man and Lancashire.

The Manxman's 08:45 BST crossing from the Douglas to Heysham and its return have both been scrapped.

It follows the cancellation of the Ben-my-Chree's overnight sailings.

Ronaldsway Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for coastal overtopping around high tide at 14:00, which could cause some damage.

A met office spokesman said strong to gale force winds could cause large waves and debris, including large stones, to be thrown onto roads and promenades between 12:00 and 16:00.

The conditions could also cause damage to "weakened walls and perhaps cause disruption to traffic", he added.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company has confirmed Wednesday's evening sailing from Douglas to Heysham Port was expected to go ahead as planned.
