Fort North roundabout will be closed at the weekend so resurfacing can be finished

The closure of a major route into the Isle of Man's capital for roadworks has been extended for a further week due to poor weather.

Part of the A5 New Castletown Road on Richmond Hill in Braddan will now shut until 5 November at the latest.

Diversions remain in place for the project, which the infrastructure department had warned could be held up by inclement conditions.

The weekend closure of Fort North roundabout will go ahead as planned.

The busy junction will shut for resurfacing to be completed between 06:00 BST on Saturday until no later than 18:00 on Sunday.

The department previously said the bad weather was likely to impact efforts to resurface the entire New Castletown Road project by its original end date of 27 October.

Contractors have fitted a 0.5-mile (0.75km) long water main as part of the work, after the previous pipe had seen an increase in bursts, the department said.
