The latest disruption follows the scrapping of Wednesday evening's crossing

Ferry passengers have faced more travel disruption as gales over the Irish Sea have led to the cancellation of daytime sailings.

Services between Douglas and Heysham in Lancashire, have been scrapped, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company said.

It follows the cancellation of Wednesday evening's journey of the Manxman and its overnight return.

Ronaldsway Met Office has also warned of "difficult driving conditions" on the island's roads due to heavy rain.

A yellow weather warning has been put in place between 10:00 and 16:00 GMT for "areas of standing water as well as a risk of localised flooding".

No newspapers

The cancellation of the ferry sailings means mail collected on Wednesday, with the exception of items for next day delivery, has not yet been dispatched to the UK.

The Isle of Man Post Office said the mail would be transported on the next ferry sailing.

The scrapping of the overnight crossing from Heysham to Douglas means newspapers have not been delivered to the island.

Some air passengers have also faced disruption due to a delay to the opening of the airfield.

The Isle of Man Airport said due to "unexpected sickness" the airfield had to remain closed until shortly after 09:00, leading to delays to the Loganair flights to Liverpool and Manchester.
