Passenger sailings resumed on Wednesday morning

Passenger ferry sailings between the Isle of Man and Lancashire have resumed following disruption due to strong winds over the Irish Sea.

It follows the cancellation of Tuesday evening's crossing from Douglas to Heysham and its overnight return.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company's backup vessel MV Arrow provided freight services overnight.

But the firm has warned forecast gales could see more disruption to passenger journeys until Sunday.

The ferry firm said all of its sailings were "subject to possible disruption or cancellation" due to the conditions.

The expected blustery conditions on Thursday, which could see gusts of up to 50mph (80km/h) hit the island, have also led to Loganair offering passengers the chance to change their flights on that day for no additional fee.

The airline operates several routes to and from the Isle of Man, including regular flights to Liverpool and Manchester.
