Retired Isle of Man police officers offered £250 for historical error

Some retired Manx police officers could be eligible for a £250 payment for a historical administrative error, the Department of Home Affairs has said.
It relates to the Police Housing Allowance during the early 1990s.
The government said an uplift to the allowance had not been applied between 1 April 1992 and 1 September 1994.
The department said it was estimated there could be around 170 retired officers that would be eligible.
However, a number of the officers may already have been contacted via the National Association of Retired Police Officers about the error, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) said.
The Police Housing Allowance had replaced the Police Rent Allowance in 1992 and was subject to a statutory uplift, which was not applied by the department at the time.
A DHA spokeswoman said the offer of a £250 payment was "a goodwill gesture" in recognition of the error.
