The pilot, the only person on board, reported the engine failure at about 1220 BST shortly after taken off.
The Diamond Twinstar was flying to Vendee, France, but had to return to Jersey Airport to land.
The runway was closed while the airport's fire and rescue service towed the aircraft from the runway. The pilot was not injured.
