Greener commuting is encouraged for Jersey businesses

Businesses in Jersey are being encouraged to create travel plans to enable their staff to choose greener ways to travel to work.

The Eco-Active toolkit created by the States if Jersey gives ideas to businesses on how to enable their employees to walk, cycle, or car-share.

One of the suggestions is for firms to acquire facilities such as showers and bike racks for the office.

It is hoped the toolkits could improve employee health and reduce traffic.

Head of health improvement Andrew Heaven said: "We found that although about 60% of staff were travelling to work by car, over half would consider walking, cycling or coming by bus."

The States of Jersey Sustainable Travel Policy aims to reduce peak-time traffic on the island by 15% over the next five years.
