Jersey rented housing waiting list soars by 40%

Jersey ministers are being pressed to build more housing for rent after a 40% rise in the waiting list this year.

Housing minister Sean Power said there were currently 900 people waiting for accommodation.

And he warned the situation would get worse unless more houses were built.

He blamed the economic downturn for the increase and said his department was working hard to reduce the waiting list.
