Jersey police chief wants review of law enforcement

There is likely to be a fundamental review of law enforcement in Jersey, according to the new police chief.

In 'Making Jersey Safer - States of Jersey Police Policing Plan 2011', Mike Bowron said financial pressures will require a review of law enforcement in the island.

He said Jersey's Police force needs to do better still with fewer resources.

Over the next three years the police have to save almost £2m as the States cut spending.

The Police Chief said while spending on the police in England and Wales had increased over the past 10 years, the real value of the police budget in Jersey had declined.

But he argued Jersey continued to be a safe place to live, work and visit.

He said it was more important than ever for people to remain confident that the police can protect the community from harm.

Mr Bowron wants to continue recent work with community groups to make town a safe place at night.
