St Helier field considered for allotments

The field could contain up to 80 allotments

Parishioners in St Helier could soon have up to 80 allotments to grow their own fruit and vegetables.

A field at Clos de Hugh, off Trinity Hill, is being considered as a place for the allotments.

Tony Andrews, the director of parks and open spaces, said officials had been looking for a suitable place for years.

He said the parish had been working with the Jersey Allotments and Leisure Gardening Association, which will manage the field.

Mr Andrews said he had received a number of calls from parishioners who would be interested in one of the allotments.

He added that anything from fruit, vegetables, salad and flowers could be grown in the allotments.

He also said they were still looking for another site for more allotments, and he asked anyone with any suitable plots near to town to get in touch.
