Jersey's Royal Square police station re-opens

Jersey Police have re-opened their small station in the Royal Square, St Helier.

The station was closed in 2002, but will now serve as a base for officers in the town centre.

Insp Alan Williamson said it would help in getting officers out on the beat, a vital part of policing strategy.

"The States of Jersey Police have long thought that the service the public want is visible, accessible, familiar, friendly and accountable," he said.

"For that reason it is a priority for us to have more officers out and about on the street where people can see us.

"Let's not forget it is the tax payers that pay our wages and they demand and have a right to see police officers out on the street."
