More than 1,000 people have joined an internet group in memory of a maths teacher from Jersey.

Jim Holland, who was 40, died at the Jersey General Hospital after collapsing at Grainville School.

The Facebook group is called "RIP Mr Holland you are a hero", was set up at the start of April after Mr Holland died.

He was head of maths at Grainville when he died of a suspected heart attack on 6 April 2011.

One pupil wrote on the page: "I haven't forgotten what you've done for me and how many times you made me laugh."

Another described Mr Holland as a complete inspiration and an amazing teacher.

Staff and pupils at Grainville school were offered counselling after his death.
