Jersey fire service reaches the finals in UK awards

The Jersey Fire and Rescue service has a new training rig where do give fire extinguisher training

Jersey Fire and Rescue Service has been celebrating reaching the finals in the UK's Fire Excellence Awards.

Despite not eventually winning, the service got a certificate in recognition of its achievement.

The award was for the service's new workplace fire safety training, which includes a gas powered mobile extinguisher training unit.

It offers hands on training in a number of scenarios such as IT equipment fires, bin fires, and electrical fires.

Chief Fire Officer Mark James said: "Being a finalist for this national award is a fantastic accolade and is recognition of the high quality of fire safety training being delivered by our staff to workplaces in Jersey."

The winner was announced at last week's International Fire Exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham.

The Metropolitan Police won the award for providing fire safety training for their 25,000 staff.
