Jersey Electricity freezes prices for second year

Jersey Electricity has announced it is freezing prices for the second winter in a row.

The company says it will continue to keep rates at 2010 levels to make keeping warm more affordable.

It cut tariffs by 5% at the start of last year and froze prices this year, but in 2009 they increased by nearly 25% because of the high cost of oil.

Chris Ambler, chief executive of Jersey Electricity, said it was hard to know whether prices will be put up in 2012.

He said: "We live in a very uncertain world, energy markets continue to be volatile, foreign exchange markets continue to be volatile obviously we'll make the call on that."

Mr Ambler said the company would review its tariffs in the spring.
