Drivers found speeding on Jersey's dual carriageway

Seven out of 10 drivers were found speeding on Jersey's only dual carriageway in data collected over five days by police.

An electric speed sign on Victoria Avenue recorded more than 100 people driving at more than 60mph.

Three cars were travelling at more than 100mph between 26 October and 30 October.

St Helier Centenier Malcolm L'Amy described the figures as alarming, but said the signs did make people slow.

Jersey has an island wide maximum speed limit of 40mph.

Mr L'Amy said: "The signs are there to give us data, from 31 October until 4 November there was a decrease in the number of motorists speeding down to 64% and there were no vehicles doing more than 100 MPH.

"In that short period of time it was obviously having an effect."
