Starting a farm in Jersey is 'too expensive'

  • Published

The days of starting a farm from scratch in Jersey are gone, according to one young farmer.

The future of farming in Jersey was being debated at the Durrell wildlife park on Monday.

UK and local experts were discussing issues such as organic farming, research and state subsidies.

Alexander Richardson, who works on his family's farm in St Ouen, said set-up costs were prohibitive. The government says it is committed to giving support.
